EDPWS Urgent Request - Preparation for Return to Work Fiji Campuses

Dear Staff,

We hope you, your families and loved ones are safe and doing well.

The University DISMAC and HR teams have begun planning a gradual physical return of staff to their respective offices in Fiji, which may take effect around mid-November 2021. However, this depends on various factors which are still being assessed. The updated Health and Safety at Work (General Workplace Conditions) (Amendment) Regulations 2021 requires workers to be fully vaccinated by 1 November 2021, in order to enter the workplace. The University, therefore requires all staff to get fully vaccinated by 1 November, 2021, to prepare for our Fiji campuses to re-open.

SMT Decision

In the most recent meeting of the Senior Management Team, it was endorsed that once the Fiji Campuses open, all positions will be required to physically report to their respective offices, regardless of the nature of work being performed. Therefore, it is imperative for staff to be fully vaccinated or have official medical exemptions from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, to return to work.

Staff who have chosen not to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, are required to inform their Head of School/Section, of this choice, by no later than 15 September 2021, in a signed letter or through email. For staff who have chosen not to be vaccinated, HR will engage in discussions with them regarding their inability to physically return to the University and their subsequent employment status.

We look forward to your co-operation in enabling an eventual and safe return to our Fiji campuses.
