Computing Science Students Participate in Programming Contest

The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is an annual event for tertiary student sponsored by IBM. This year for the first time a team comprising of 3 computing science students Shabnil Ram, Ratneel Deo, Javed Ali represented USP in the ACM-ICPC Easter Division Programming contest held on August 30th.
The Eastern Division consists of universities from NZ and Fiji. The top four universities in this division proceeded to the regional finals in Sydney. While the USP team missed out in the qualification round, it was an enriching experience for the students, who received certificate of notable mention from ACM and gifts from IBM. “This was our first attempt, and we hope to have more teams putting up stronger performance next year” remarked Dr. Sunil Lal, Suva Site Director.
