Discipline of Geography, Earth Science & Environment

Research and teaching in the Discipline of Geography, Earth Science and Environment at The University of the South Pacific provides an integrated understanding of the Earth, its biophysical environment and the people who inhabit it.

This is an exciting time for those involved in the fields of Geography, Earth Science, Environmental Science and Geospatial Science. The consequences of environmental change extend to the remotest corners of the Earth and have an impact on all its inhabitants. The links between human activity and the natural environment are stronger than at any time in history. And the spatial scale has been thrust to the forefront of environmental investigation.

In such a context, those with an understanding of the behaviour of the physical environment, human interaction with that environment, and the capacity to understand the operation of the global system at synoptic scales and beyond the constraints of traditional disciplines are in high demand.

The location of The University of the South Pacific within the world’s greatest ocean offers a unique opportunity for work in some of the most stunning environments on Earth. The nations of the Pacific and its rim are set to dictate global destiny in the 21st century. We believe that the Discipline of Geography, Earth Science and Environment is ideally placed to tackle the resultant economic, social and environmental issues and to answer the questions of the Pacific Century.
