Marika Kuilamu is an Assistant Lecturer for the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM). He joined The University of the South Pacific (USP) in 2006 as a tutor and he currently teaches first and second tourism courses such as: tourism in the South Pacific, introduction to tourism, marketing for hospitality and tourism, and international tourism.

Prior to joining USP, Marika served as Principal Tourism Officer for the Ministry of Tourism where he gained an interest in sustainable tourism development. He was particularly interested in tourism carrying capacity and how development can impact local communities and their environment. He taught chemistry in a number of high schools around Fiji after graduating from USP with a Bachelor of Science in 1999. He attained a Bachelor of Administration [Hons] in Tourism Administration from James Cook University in 1995 and an MA in Tourism Studies at the University of the South Pacific in 2012. Since joining USP, he has developed an interest in the use of technology and open educational resources to enhance student engagement and learning. He is also the Strategic Total Academic Review representative for STHM and has been actively involved in aligning STHM courses and programmes to USP’s strategic plan and institutional outcomes. His other area of interest is in the marketing of special tourism segments, especially community-based tourism and ecotourism.
