This website was originally conceived as a means of making available details of my records of moths from Fiji. It is in no way a comprehensive list of known Fijian species, and also includes a few records from elsewhere in the South Pacific. It was also suggested to me that this information might be a useful resource for anyone working in Fiji, so I have tried to extend the site to present the data in different ways. If you know the species, you can browse the records by family and species, and see pictures and record details. A separate section of the site is intended to assist if you have a moth you are trying to identify. You must remember though that all species are not shown - only those I have recorded. I recorded moths mainly while I was working in Fiji from 1991 to 1998, with a few from more recent visits. I have a sizable collection, which I continue to work on, and I have photographs of all species. So far I have identified 400 species, but I still have many unidentified specimens. I have published one short note and a few short papers, describing species new to Fiji and descriptions of new species (see references). Among the Macrolepidoptera, families containing generally larger species, the majority of specimens are identified, as are a large number of the Pyralidae. Among the Microlepidoptera only a small number of species are currently idintified, but more will be added as this happens. I try to be as thorough as possible in confirming all identifications. However, particularly in the case of some of the micros, published data can be very limited. I am always trying to improve the level of confirmation, and I will continue to update the site. I have not been able to be completely consistent with the nomenclature I have used (more details).
