The Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP-ESCAP), in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Asia-Pacific Regional Office, and with the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, has been assisting countries in Asia and the Pacific to strengthen their capabilities in conducting the 2010 Round of Population and Housing Census through organizing a series of training courses/workshops at national, sub-regional and regional levels for government officials/statisticians in collection, analysing and dissemination of high quality and timely census data with gender concern. The sub-regional training course/workshop on Dissemination and Use of Population and Housing Census results with Gender Concern to be conducted jointly with UNFPA and the University of the South Pacific (USP) from 25th to 29th July 2011 in Suva, Fiji is one of the training courses/workshops in the series. The USP will be hosting this workshop in the newly constructed Japan-Pacific ICT Centre. The aim of this course/workshop is to strengthen the capability of government officials on the dissemination and use of the 2010 round of population and housing census data for policy making. In addition, the course will provide an opportunity to learn and exchange national experiences in using census results for developing national and sub-national level plans, monitoring MDGs and gender mainstreaming. The target participants for this workshop are managers of the 2010 round of population and housing census at the bureau/department of national statistical agencies, as well as, senior officials of civil population registration offices or heads of departments/divisions of ministry of health or ministry of finance who develop national and sub-national plans, sets goals, monitor and evaluate progress in achieving these goals. The participants will be from Fiji, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste.
