The main function of FALE-SLS is to assist students when they experience learning problems as they strive to complete their certificate, diploma, undergrad and post-grad degree studies. As the main means of communication is in the English language, all assistance from FALE-SLS target communication skills in the four modes: reading, speaking, listening and writing. The following are ways in which FALE-SLS assists students master the skills in the four modes:

• Workshops: a series of workshops throughout the semester on skills related to the four modes;
• Face2Face consultations (Drop-in): face to face sessions between students who 'drop-in' to seek assistance and the Tutor giving assistance;
• Senior Peer Mentoring (SPM) sessions: Sessions where students are guided by a high achieving student (SP Mentor) in the same discipline they are studying.  Mentors act as 'study buddies' for the students, helping them overcome any difficulties they experience in their studies;
• E-mentoring consultations: assisting students via email;
• Resources: Printed and soft copies of study guides on the four modes, and other resources like reference books and such, available to assist the students.
• REACT workshops: using video to conduct workshops to students outside of Laucala Campus.

Students needing assistance with their writing and language-related issues are welcome to 'drop-in' to the FALE-SLS or to email us on falesls(at)usp.ac.fj.
