Definition:
Bell (2005) defined peer observation of teaching as a 'collaborative, developmental activity in which professionals offer mutual support by;
- observing each other teach
- explaining and discussing what was observed
- sharing ideas about teaching
- reflecting on understandings, feelings, actions
- feedback and trying out new ideas'
Peer Observation:
Consists of observing and being observed
- formally or informally
- in development programs by experts
- by collaborative agreement
- or in team teaching
Peer observation can be for
- staff development
- or performance management (Peel, 2005)
- use as evidence for tenure or promotion
