Miliakere is from Viani-Cakaudrove situated in the second largest island in the Fiji group, Vanua Levu. She has worked for the Oceania Centre since its establishment in 1997 along with it's former programme assistant Lilian Thaggard and the founder of the Oceania Centre for Arts and Culture, the late Professor Epeli Hau`ofa. She is an exceptionally talented weaver of fine mats and attributes her skills to countless lessons in her village by older women during her earlier years.
