Chinese Movie Night Successfully held at the Confucius Classroom at the USP Cook Islands Campus

To promote the understanding of China to the Cook Islanders, which is live more than 10,000 km away from China, the Confucius Classroom at the USP Cook Islands held a Chinese Movie Night on 3rd of June, 2017, giving to the local people a spectacular experience of Chinese culture. Two movies were chosen, the first one was “Monkey King: Hero Is Back (in English)”, and the second one was “Monster Hunt” (in Chinese with English subtitles).

More than 30 people were waiting in the big classroom 45 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. The audiences enjoyed the movie very much, they sometimes cheered loudly and other times all quiet and holding their breath. Audience were deeply attracted by the legendary of Chinese traditional stories. They were also amazed by the Chinese filmmaking arts and the beautiful sceneries of China.

At the end of each movie, there was a warm applause from the audience. Many expressed their thanks and asked "Will there be a movie next week?" and "When can we have another movie night?".

The Movie Night attracted 150 local people, which takes up to 1.5% of the total population in Rarotonga. This was an exceptionally successful Chinese culture experience and promotion activity in the Cook Islands.
