Dr. Alessio Cangiano

Senior Lecturer

Qualifications

Dr. Cangiano holds a PhD in Demography (2005) from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” partly supported by EU Marie Curie research training funding. During his PhD work he was a visiting fellow at the French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) and the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (Germany). He is a Senior Lecturer in Population Studies with a specific expertise on migration, labour market and ageing issues. Before joining USP he had been working for six years as a Research Officer at the Center on Migration, Policy and Society (University of Oxford).

 

Research Areas

Dr. Cangiano has published over 20 book chapters, journal articles and research reports dealing with migration and migrant labour market incorporation in Europe; the collection and assessment of migration data; the impact of migration on demographic structures and social security systems; and migration and integration policies. He is currently working with a team of European researchers on the project ‘LAB-MIG-GOV: Which labour migration governance for a more competitive and inclusive Europe?’ funded by a consortium of European philanthropies (www.labmiggov.eu). In addition to his academic work, Dr. Cangiano has significant experience of research dissemination in policy environments gained through consultancy work carried out for the European Parliament and the European Commission and several collaborations with public and third-sector organizations.
