Research Interests
Bhaskar Rao has a long-term interest in the geological evolution of Fiji and the origin of its late Miocene to Pliocene volcanic and plutonic rock suites. These act as hosts to epithermal Au-Ag deposits. He has contributed extensively to the development of Fiji's geological remapping programme. This has involved the use of volcaniclastic facies mapping in the identification of eruptive centres and the petrological and petrographic characterisation of young alkalic (shoshonitic) rock suites. He has broad interests in sustainable mining development, mineral exploration in the southwest Pacific and the assessment of deep sea mineral resources.
