Modelling urban growth in the Pacific: the case of the greate Suva region.

Time: 12–1 pm
Venue: M107 Lecture Theatre, Marine Campus
This seminar presents some early results of the application of a spatial urban growth model to a rapidly urbanising region in the South Pacific. Rapid, unmanaged urbanisation in this part of the world is contributing to environmental degradation, poverty and inequality. This research combines GIS and remote sensing with an urban growth model to characterise and simulate future urban growth. The relatively small scale of the area under investigation, and its geographical context, offer an opportunity to examine the modelling process in a new environment.
