On Thursday, March 7, the Emalus campus management team held an informal gathering for all campus staff in the conference room. The meeting was held to keep Emalus staff informed of news and activities of which they should be aware. The meeting lasted almost 2 hours, from 3:00 pm to just before 5:00 pm.
Campus Director Eric Colvin opened the meeting with a discussion of some financial matters that will affect the campus during 2013. Campus Manager Ruben Bakeo Markward gave an update on personnel matters reminded staff about the new Strategic Plan and about the development of the Triennium Implementation Plan. The Emalus Finance Manager, Shailendra Prasad, gave a brief presentation on the campus budget for 2013. Law Librarian Julie Reynolds provided an update on the state of the library and provided a sneak peek of the new Emalus campus web site. IT Manager Nettie Collins explained the current state of the internet at Emalus and the plans in place to improve online access.
Finally, Property and Facilities Manager David Worek showed some images from the proposed Campus Plan, drawn up late last year. It shows a recommended building plan for the campus, including more teaching spaces and the building of a conference centre complex near the entrance. This presentation prompted extended debate over what the building priorities ought to be.
Each section of the presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session. The excellent turnout and enthusiastic participation of the attendees demonstrate the need for more such meeting going forward.
