Fun, stressful, exciting…the term "Hit the Ground Running" comes to mind!

Passing all my final year papers in one go.

After graduating from USP, what were some of the highlights of your career?
Being able to conduct fieldwork in the ocean, which I love doing.

How do you think USP helped you in your career?
I took a few Marine Science courses as electives in my final year. Those electives are one of the reasons I was hired for my current job.

After graduating from USP, what has been your greatest achievement?
Becoming certified as an Open Water Diver. I was told that I was extremely scared of the water when I was little...

What inspires you and why?
My family, friends and lecturers. Their achievements say to me: "If they can do it, why can't you?"

What advice would you give to current and future students of USP?
"Don't forget to enjoy it! And hang in there coz if I was able to graduate, what's stopping you from doing the same?!"

Please share your top three tips that you think are most important for our current students or recent graduates that will help them when starting out on their career paths.

  • If you don't understand, ask, a lecturer prefers a student chasing knowledge (them), rather than a student who thinks he/she knows everything!!
  • When applying for a job, throw everything in your CV, its the one paper that advertises YOU!! Just remember "KISS" Keep it short and sweet!!
  • When asked a difficult question during an interview and your brain goes blank, don't freak out, you're not a computer. Smile, take your time to gather your thoughts and then answer.

What has your involvement been with the University since you graduated?
Compiling reports about new developments in my office. These along with other information from various branches of my office are sent to PIMRIS for perusal and benefit of those with access to PIMRIS

Any other information you would like to share?
There will come a time where you will want to be somewhere else instead of where you are at right now. But learn to enjoy where you are at right now so that when you finally get to where you want to be, you won't miss where you are right now!
