Update on the delinking of Comparable and Academic Staff as of August, 2013

Background

A decision to delink the classification and remuneration structures of comparable staff from those of academic staff was adopted in an agreement made in 2009 between the University and the Association of University of South Pacific Staff (AUSPS).

Progress so far

  • New classification and career structure for comparable staff who will soon to be known as professional staff.

  • Establishment of Job Evaluation Oversight Committee  which includes four AUSPS Executive members

  • Creation of TOR for a Job Evaluation exercise

  • Creation of JE questionnaire toolkit

  • Selection of benchmark positions (63 in total for first phase)

  • Establishment of Job Evaluation review panels, which include the four  AUSPS Executive members and staff nominees

  • The JE Panels have been evaluating the benchmark positions for about a month now and over 40% have been completed

  • Establishment of the Salary Structure Working Group

  • The group has been meeting for a few weeks now and have been looking at various market survey reports which were compiled by different companies e.g. PWC, Hay, Bat, Birches Group

  • The group is also in the process of selecting the basket of comparators (local, regional and international) that will be used to create the professional staff salary structure
