The University of the South Pacific Students Association (USPSA) in Lautoka organized an Eid celebration for the students and staff of the Lautoka Campus on Tuesday, 13 August.
The Eid ul-Fitr festival was celebrated by the Muslims around the country last Friday, following one month of sunrise-to-sunset fasting period of Ramandan.
Both students and staff dressed up for the occasion to show respect for the Muslim tradition.
Keynote speaker, USP Lautoka Campus’ staff Mohammed Shakeel Khan, said USP promoted racial harmony and these types of functions would definitely foster peace, respect and understanding between individuals who belong to different religions.
He thanked the staff and students and USPSA in particular, for giving importance to all religions that exist on campus.
“The basis of religious harmony is education, knowledge about each other’s belief and functions of these sorts are an ideal source for such information.”
The function was also attended by the USP Lautoka Campus Director Dr. Pramila Devi.
All the participants were treated to sweets and the traditional seviya as well as lunch.
