The staff and students of the University of the South Pacific celebrated Easter, the most sacred event in the Christian calendar that is celebrated universally by all ethnicity and religion.
Organized by the USP Student Association (USPSA) Lautoka Branch, the function was held at the Campus’ lecture hall on Tuesday, 26th March.
The students brought the theme to life through skits and songs, including action songs that created a reverent atmosphere.
Student Organizing Committee Chairperson Adilevu Gata said the performance by the students was very emotional and moving which brought her into tears. She said the audience were completely absorbed by the performance.
“Easter is a remembrance of God sending His son on earth to be crucified because of our sins and He rose on the third day. It is a celebration of His resurrection,” said Ms Gata.
“The three important things we need to remember are Obedience, Sacrifice and Glory. Jesus gave his Father supreme honor and glory through his obedience and willingness to sacrifice his life on the cross.”
Lautoka Campus Director Dr Pramila Devi expressed her appreciation and thanks to the USPSA for organizing this function.
Dr Devi said she strongly supported social/cultural/religious celebrations on campus as it promotes interaction amongst staff and students and also helped create awareness on the essence of festivals.
“Awareness amongst our students and staff will also promote unity and better understanding, if we are informed,” she said.
Dr Devi said such events also served as refreshers that assist us to think and rise above our daily chores and ritualistic practices.
