Following the successful launch of its Alumni Network in Lautoka in December last year, the Campus organized a special function in Rakiraki Hotel on Saturday for USP graduates living and working in Rakiraki.
The establishment of the alumni network is in line with USPís three-year plan. Laucala Campus has an Alumni Office and a portal, where alumni can register online.
Invitations were sent out to 67 former USP students, working in private or public sectors, and about 50 attended and registered with the University of the South Pacificís Alumni Network (USPAN).
Campus Director Dr Pramila Devi said the function targeted at registering alumni living in the remote town of Rakiraki as they were not able to attend the launch in Lautoka last year due to the long distance. And as highlighted in her presentation in Lautoka, the Campus organized a function in Rakiraki on Saturday, 25th June, which is its first event taking place outside Lautoka this year.
In her welcome address, Dr Devi said that USPís alumni were part of the USP family, working in all sectors, making substantial contribution towards the governance of regional countries. Connecting alumni will enhance their potential and expand and strengthen their communication and partnership she said.
ďThe alumni network would also keep members aware of events and activities of the Campus and the university and also allow greater participation of alumni in these activities. The network will allow campus to receive regular feedback from alumni, and have knowledge of their profession on work.
The Campus is trying to identify USP graduates working and living in the Western Division in order to connect them with USP whilst giving them the opportunity to re-connect with their university mates.Ē
Dr Pramila talked about the many developments taking place in USP in general and at the Lautoka Campus. The development of a campus in Lautoka at the Universityís land in Tavewa Avenue was a major project she highlighted.
She also revealed her plans to upgrade the two sub-centers of the Lautoka Campus in Sigatoka and Rakiraki.
