AMBA Accreditation - Graduate School of Business

MBA programme accredited by Association of MBAs

The University of the South Pacific’s Graduate School of Business (GSB) received an award as a newly accredited school under the Association for MBAs (AMBA) at the annual International Conference for Deans and Directors held in Paris, France on April 28. This accreditation is an official recognition that USP’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme offered by GSB is of comparable standards to those offered by other premier business schools around the world.

Receiving the award was Dr. Kesaia Seniloli, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, accompanied by Professor Raghuvar Pathak, Head of Graduate School of Business & Director MBA Programme, and Professor James McMaster. Dr. Seniloli applauded the achievement saying, “this award is an example of USP’s commitment to providing quality education as recognized by global institutions”. Dr. Seniloli said that “the AMBA accreditation not only impacted current students enrolled in the programme but also over a thousand Alumni that have graduated since 1995.” “GSB started the rigorous accreditation process in 2011 and was subject to stringent assessment criteria including best standards in teaching, curriculum and student interaction. This represents the tireless effort of the GSB team in pursuing and ultimately receiving the AMBA Accreditation,” she said.

According to the MBA Assessment report, the Association noted there is clear evidence of the commitment by USP’s Graduate School of Business (GSB) to meeting the needs of the South Pacific region. “The contribution of the School to the socio-economic development and social impact of the region is laudable and closely matches the mission of the University,” the report noted.

The Association also observed that the development of, and investment in, a comprehensive telecommunications infrastructure which assists MBA delivery in a challenging geographical environment, has enabled USP to be at the leading edge of management education in the region and extend access to a diverse population. “USP has fostered strong relationships with industry and commerce, providing access to senior corporates to enhance the MBA learning experience,” the Association noted.

“The commitment and enthusiasm of the faculty to ensure a high quality experience for students was clearly visible through the assessment visit,” the report stated. According to the assessment, the nature of MBA teaching and learning is notably experiential with an excellent balance of theory and practitioner input.

AMBA is the only international professional body connecting MBA students and graduates, hundreds of accredited business schools and MBA employers in over 110 countries. The AMBA accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement in postgraduate business education and is earned only by the best programmes in the world after a 4-stage accreditation process.

It is also a commitment to developing standards in global postgraduate management education.
