PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

Dr Anand Chand is an Associate Professor in the School of Management and Public Administration, FBE, USP. He is originally from the Fiji Islands. He has a BA (Tasmania, Australia), Post-Graduate Diploma (USP), Diploma in Business Studies (Canterbury, NZ), MA in Industrial Relations (USP), MA in Research Methods (Manchester, UK), PhD (University of Cardiff, Wales, UK). Dr. Chand has been teaching, conducting research, doing consultations and publishing for the last 32 years. He teaches both undergraduate and post-graduate courses (including MBA) and supervisors Mcom and PhD students. He has published 2 books, 2 monographs, 6 book chapters, and 39 articles. Anand has also presented around 40 papers at international conferences.

 

Dr. Chand specializes in the areas of HRM, Industrial Relations, Employment Relations, Global Supply Chains and other areas of general management. He has extensive experience in conducting researching and doing consultancy for international agencies. For example, he has conducted research for ILO, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), EU/USP Employment and Labour Market Programme, Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), Training and Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF) and Australian Council of International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and Pacific Agri-business Research for Development Initiative (PARDI). He has visited and taught in a number of South Pacific Islands countries and is well versed about the South Pacific countries.

Background

Dr Anand Chand is an Associate Professor at the University of the South Pacific (USP), Suva, Fiji Islands. He was born in Fiji and has worked at USP for the last 34 years. He is an expert of the South Pacific Region and he has extensive knowledge of the South Pacific Region via teaching and conducting major research projects in the Pacific.

Areas of Specialization

Dr Anand Chand is a multidisciplinary and a versatile scholar who specializes in a broad range of areas of study.  He specializes in (1) HRM (2) Employment Relations (3) General Management (4) Supply/Value Chains, (5) Public Sector Administration, (6) Political Science, (7) Sociology, and (8) Development Studies.

Qualifications

Dr Anand Chand has received most of his qualifications from internationally recognized universities. He has a PhD from Cardiff University, UK (area of study – Management, HRM, Employment Relations and Supply Chain); MCom from Manchester University, UK (area of study – HRM, IR, Globalisation); MA from USP (area of study – Employment Relations, HRM, Public Organisation);  Diploma in Business Studies from Canterbury University, NZ (area of study – Business Studies & Management); PGDip from USP (area of study – Employment Relations, HRM, Development Studies); and BA from University of Tasmania, Australia (area of study – Sociology, Political Science, Public Sector).

In addition, Dr Chand has been a resistant of a number of International Award, Grant and Prizes.

Publications

Dr Chand is active in publishing books, book chapters, and high quality journal articles in the field of human resource management, employment relations, supply chain management, value chain analysis and small business development in the Pacific Island Countries. In total, Dr Chand has published 2 books, 1 monograph, 7 book chapters, around 40 journal articles in ranked international journals (A, B, C),  and more than 30 research projects reports for donor agencies.

Research & Collaboration with International Scholars (Australia, USA, Europe)

 

Dr Chand has a good track record of conducting research and consultancies in the Pacific Region. He has been successful in attracting donor agencies funds such as from UNDP, UNFPA, IFPPA, ILO, JICA, AusAid, ACIAR, PICPA, MSG, NZ Save the Fund for Children, etc. In addition, Dr Chand has done a number of community impact research projects for organisations and governments in the Pacific Region.

 

Moreover, Dr Chand has a good academic network with key stakeholders in the Pacific Region. He has good rapport with senior government officials (Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries) and NGO leaders in the USP region. His ability and expertise of Pacific Region have enhanced ability to research and attract international scholars in joint research and scholarly undertaking.

Moreover, Dr Chand has been a reviewer papers submitted to International Conferences such as: International Development Informatics Association (IDIA) Conference, International Conference on Emerging Trends and Issues in Management and Public Administration in the South Pacific Region and Beyond, etc.

 

Dr Chand is also a member of the International Employment Relations Association (IERA) based at ILO in Geneva.
