Students doing PH101 via the Online mode at the USP Emalus Campus in Port Vila, Vanuatu were excited to receive tablet computers from their University on 28th August 2014. These tablets which are equipped with electronic course materials and applications will be supporting and enhancing the students' learning via the Online mode. 13 students benefited from this joint effort by the USP mLearning Team and the Faculty of Science, Technology & Environment.
The distribution of the tablets to the group of Physics students would benefit them by allowing offline access to most of their course materials and access to the Internet, online University student services (eg. Moodle & Webmail) and to Open Educational Resources (OERs) via WiFi on campus. The distribution of the tablets to the students is complementary to the University's Tablet Learning Project carried out in 2013 where more than 500 students in seven of the University's campuses piloted the use of Android tablets for learning purposes.
Upon the distribution of the tablets, students were provided with training workshops on Use of Android Tablets and the Use of Moodle on Android Tablets by mLearning staff.
