Rajnesh Prasad - USP Alumni Network

For Rajnesh Prasad the highlight of his career was being the “brains” behind M-Paisa, Vodafone Fiji’s Mobile Money Transfer service.

An alumnus of The University of the South Pacific, Rajnesh graduated with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Computer Science and Information Systems in 2004.

He started his career as an IT Cadet at Vodafone in December of 2003 after completing his studies and waiting for graduation in April of 2004. “I decided to study IT because the industry was growing at the time and I am glad I made that choice”.

Having been at Vodafone for 11 years now, the man from Siberia, Labasa is modest about his achievements. “I like to use technology for innovation and spent about 3 months designing the M-Paisa programme” Rajnesh reveals.
He added that M-Paisa was Vodafone’s response to customer demand for more innovative services and its introduction has added to the range of products available on Vodafone’s m-commerce platform.

A first for Fiji and Vodafone, the company launched the M-Paisa mobile transfer money service in 2010 and has over 325,000 customers.

There is a no doubt that employees like Rajnesh are an asset to Vodafone. Rajnesh Prasad is the current General Manager for Sales and Marketing and credits his success to the knowledge gained during his undergraduate years.

“The knowledge you get at USP lays the foundation for starting a career, because if your foundation is firm you have a good starting point”.

With the support of family and his employer, Rajnesh has graduated with a Master in Information Systems from the University of Central Queensland and a Master of Business Administration from Warwick University in the United Kingdom.

I definitely see myself leading an IT based company in Fiji or abroad in 10 years’ time, concluded Prasad.
