After graduating with a Diploma in Education in 1982 from the USP, I was posted to Dreketi High School in Vanua Levu at the beginning of 1983 as a Mathematics and Science teacher.

Being originally from Dreketi, it gave me an opportunity to teach at my old school. At the beginning of 1984, I was appointed as the Acting Head of Science Department at the school. I was confirmed in the position at the beginning of 1988.

In 1989, I was awarded an in-service scholarship by the Fiji Government to complete my Bachelor in Science (BSc) degree at USP. This I successfully completed at the end of 1991 majoring in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. After this, I was posted to Laucala Bay Secondary School in Suva as the Head of the Science Department. During 1992 and 1993, I completed my Post-Graduate Diploma in Chemistry from USP.

In October 1994, I joined The Curriculum Development Unit at The Ministry of Education as the Senior Education Officer (Health Science). In October 1996, I was awarded a scholarship to do my Masters in Science (MSc) at the University of Leeds in the UK. Unfortunately, I could not complete this due to personal reasons.

At the beginning of 1997, I was appointed as the Senior Education Officer in charge of Chemistry at the Curriculum Development Unit. In 1999 I was awarded another scholarship to do my Master in Science (MSc) in Chemistry at USP, which I successfully completed in 2000. In October 2003, I moved to Hamilton in New Zealand and have remained in Hamilton since, as a student and a secondary school teacher.

I completed an MPhil degree in Chemistry from the University of Waikato in 2010. Currently, I am studying for my PhD in Science Education at the University of Wailkato. The topic of my research is “Public understanding of the Nature of Science and engagement with socio-scientific debates”.

The University of the South Pacific has largely been responsible for almost everything I have achieved in my life. The USP has not only provided me with the knowledge and skills to enable me to serve in different positions in my career but it also gave me the skills to deal with everyday life issues.

USP is very aware of the needs of the Pacific students and understands them well. Apart from setting me up for real life, USP has given me my most precious memories. The current and future students at the USP should make the best of their time there. I wish to most sincerely thank all my former lecturers and staff of USP for making me who I am today. I would also love to hear from former and current USP students, especially those I studied with in regards to what they are up to now.
