Timothy Morgan - USP Alumni Network

Name: Timothy Morgan

Country: Fiji

Programme: BA in Marine Affairs and Tourism Studies

Why did you choose your field of study?

To learn more about an industry that Fiji specializes in.

Briefly reflect on your student life at USP?
Enjoyable, at times stressful. Made life long friendships and learned important life skills.

Greatest achievement[s] as a student  Graduating with my BA, which enabled me to move on to achieve a Masters Degree abroad.

Career Highlights since Graduation Every new role was a career highlight for me, but a transfer to Sydney earlier this year would have to be my biggest so far.
Who/what do you credit your success to? What inspires you?  The drive to deliver successful events for clients.. and definitely my parents who have kept me on track most of the way and provided the best support and advice throughout my career.

How do you think USP helped you in your career?  USP definitely taught me discipline, and that there are no short cuts to success, if you put in the hard yards it always pays off in the end.

Describe any challenges you face to reach where you are today and how you overcame those challenges? Making long term goals and sticking to them has been difficult. Deciding exactly where you want to be in X amount of years and focusing on it. Once I achieved one it became easier to set others. But you have to accept that sacrifices need to be made in order to achieve them.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years (career and/or personal goals)?  In a senior role in the events industry..

What advice would you give to current and future students of USP? Take your time in deciding which field you want to go into and take it seriously it has a huge impact on the rest of your life.. Once you start make every day count, 3 years can go by very quick..
Please share top three tips that you think are most important for our current students or recent graduates that will help them when starting out on their career paths.
Donít be too fussy when choosing a job, it is just a stepping stone to your dream job.
Donít think the jobs will come to you just because you have a degree, once you are in the job market the real competition begins..
Donít be afraid to make mistakes, it happens to everyone when they start off. If they are honest mistakes you will only learn from them.

What has your involvement been with the University since you graduated? (if any) Still part of the Tourism, Hospitality & Hotel Management Alumni.
