USP- Labasa Staff and Stakeholders Commemorate Vice Chancellor and President’s Visit to Labasa Campus

The staff and student representatives of Labasa Campus graciously welcomed the Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Rajesh Chandra during his visit to USP Labasa Campus from 1st – 3rd June.

The main purpose for his visit was to assess the current campus facilities and visit selected sites that have been proposed for the establishment of USP Campus in Labasa. The Vice Chancellor and President enlightened the Campus staff on the importance of the Strategic Plan; the need to work smarter and to adopt a “demand based entrepreneurial approach”. This event also provided opportunities for the student representatives to present their feedback on their learning experiences at the Campus.

The major concerns highlighted by the student representatives were on the availability of space and limited resources to cater for high numbers. The Vice Chancellor and President, has agreed to upgrade the current facilities at the Campus and has ensured the establishment of a new computer lab and science laboratory by next year.

Professor Chandra intends to upgrade internet bandwidth for Labasa and particularly Savusavu to improve student’s access to e-resources. The Vice Chancellor and President commented that the University was very pleased with the rapid growth in enrollment at the Labasa Campus.
