USP Lautoka appointed its six senior peer mentors for semester 1, 2015 who underwent a full day of training on Friday, 01 May.
Held at the USP Lautoka Campus, the training was led by the Senior Peer Mentors Coordinator Lautoka Campus, Shaleshni Prasad and her assisting coordinator Shiwagami Devi.
The senior peer mentors are Kamini Lata for a Certificate in Childhood Education (CCE) course; Anaseini Conivannua for two Management courses, Chaya Dutt and Abdul Zaim for the USP generic course - Information and Literacy; Faresh Nisha for an Accounting course and Krishneel Chandra for a Foundation Mathematics course.
The newly selected mentors learned about the terms and conditions of their appointment, their responsibilities and other important matters such as Time Management to assist them with their mentoring. They were also taught some basic skills and techniques required for their role.
The Senior Peer Mentoring Programme was launched last year (2014) with four senior peer mentors appointed to provide support and guidance to assist their fellow peers with their academic performance and help them achieve their academic goals.
