Overview of Event

We offer Lose IT! Challenge for students & staff to participate.

The Lose It! challenge is to improve health and wellness. Our goal is to assist wherever possible to the safe and effective enjoyment of fitness, health, and wellness for University of the South Pacific community. Our primary function is to help USP Community discover and maintain a healthy balance between work, study and wellness.

Keeping staff & student healthy and productive greatly contributes to the success and longevity of University of the South Pacific and it provides reinforcement to the themes of Quality, Relevance and Sustainability in the Strategic Plan 2013 – 2018.


Time Frame

12 weeks (3months)

24th July to 15th October 2017

Awarding Prize

There will be two prize components for the outlined below: 

(This will measure a sum of change in body mass index) (BMI = Weight (kg)/Height (m)2)

1. Monthly Prize: The initial BMI and the final BMI for the month will be measured for all participating individuals. The individual with the greatest difference towards the median healthy BMI of 21.75 will be declared winner. 

2. Major prize: for the individual who is closest to the median healthy BMI of 21.75 in comparison to his/her initial BMI at the start of the competition. The winner will be determined by measuring the initial BMI during registrations and the final BMI at the end of the competition of all participating individuals. The individual with the greatest difference towards the median healthy BMI of 21.75 will win the overall competition.

 

Major prize: treadmill + 2 nights premium accommodation at Pearl Resort for 2 people.

 

 Monthly prize: may include gym membership,  healthy cooking electrical appliance such as blender, juicer, food processor


Outcomes:

Aside from developing healthier lifestyles, one of the most positive outcomes would be to boost morale and the sense of coming together as a community to accomplish something. Besides losing weight, individual will be able to once again participate in athletic activities. Not everyone has a goal to lose weight,” but some want to tone up, while others want to increase their cardiovascular levels or decrease blood pressure. “Lose It!” program gives you the knowledge to achieve real success fitness goals. While only a 12-week program, the benefits will provide the environment to last a lifetime. All in all the whole USP community will benefit.


 

All staff & students who wish to participate must register online before the closing date 13th July 2017.

How Weight Will be Scored

 


Track Progress - Monthly weigh-in Process

Data Collection

·         At USP medical Centre, weight is recorded on manual form by Centre staff, signed by the participant and counter signed by staff.

·         A copy of form is given to participant upon request.

·         The manual form is kept in file and used to record on a computer database

·         Compulsory weigh-ins at the beginning of each month.

·         Same scale will be used for all weigh-ins.

Final Evaluation will be only for one day, on the 16th October 2017.


 

Cooperation and Support

With the guidance of training program offered by Fitness Trainers, one hour free session twice a week will be provided for all the participants
