VCs visit to USP Labasa Campus.

The Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Rajesh Chandra and Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council, Mr Winston Thompson visited Labasa Campus on the 1st of February to meet with campus staffs and engage with key stakeholders of the University. This was also Pro-Chancellors first official visit to Labasa campus in his capacity as the Chair of Council.

In Mr. Thompson's address during the staff and stakeholders round table forum, he highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the Council in ensuring that the University activities, strategic plans are supported and fulfilled. More importantly, the Council is entrusted by member governments and partners of USP to map the way forward by using government contributions to financially support the University activities.

The same sentiments were echoed by the VC as he assured the audience that Labasa Campus had shown a great deal of progress since its humble inception in 2000. He stated that it must continue to reflect the needs of the community and must partner strongly with other government departments and stakeholders in ensuring that the community succeeds with its partnership from the university. This year being a special year for the University, VC stressed the importance of celebrating its 50th anniversary as it is the only major provider of human resource training that determines development for its member countries and other Pacific Island states.

They were joined by other SMT members to witness a landmark achievement of the University, the official opening of Pacific TAFE Labasa Center on the 2nd of February. SMT members present included the Deputy Vice Chancellor Learning and Teaching, Professor Richard Coll, Vice President Regional Campus, Estates and Infrastructure, Dr. Giulio Paunga and Pacific TAFE Executive Director, Mr. Hasmukh Lal.

Importantly, the university celebrates how it has successfully undergone major transitions from 1968 to 2018, in investing in digital learning tools, acquiring international accreditation, indulging in world class research, having an inclusive learning programme and continuously edging competitors in committing to creating knowledge for their country and shaping the future of the Pacific.
