GE202 - 2004 Fieldtrip

Early morning three buses left for Navua. The students are still rather tired, but looking forward to three interesting days in the western side of Viti Levu.
First Stop: Navua ALTA Resettlement Scheme: Farmers whose land leases expired are given a chance to �start another life�.
Just 5 days before the fieldtrip the small town of Navua experienced severe flooding. The students distributed 400 kg rice and 80 kg dhal to the farmers of the resettlement scheme and their families.
Students are eager to learn from the farmers� families about their experience of the resettlement.
The second day starts with a health breakfast at the Coronation Hall of the Methodist Church in Lautoka.

Mr. Daya Ram, secretary of the Sugar Commission of Fiji, informs the students about the sugar sector of Fiji and the plans to restructure it.
