VirusScan 8 Installation FAQs

1.  What will be upgraded on the McAfee Anti-Virus?
Over the next few weeks the University's Anti-Virus software will be upgraded to the latest version. This will take place in two steps.

First, the software that communicates with the main campus server, called E-Policy Orchestrator (EPO), will be upgraded. You will notice a change in the system tray of your workstations from the familiar Vshield and magnifying glass icons to a new blue grey shield icon.

The new icon is circled below.

In the second part of the upgrade, the actual anti-virus software that runs on the workstation will be upgraded. This will also be completed automatically. You will notice a slight change in the system tray of your workstation, from the familiar red, white, and blue shield to a different looking shield. The new icon is circled below.

2.  When and how will it be delivered to me?
The EPO agent and its associated anti-virus products will be delivered automatically via the EPolicy Orchestrator server.

3.  What if I am not connected to an existing domain?
In order for EPolicy Orchestrator to work, the client PC has to be part of a defined domain.  If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP and do not login to any of USP's domain (such as Laucala) please contact your IT personnel or Helpdesk for assistance.

4.  What if I am running a server?
The EPO agent will automatically be upgraded on both servers and workstations. The new 8.0.0 version of Anti-Virus software will be installed on servers via EPO only if they are part of existing domain. If they are not part of the domain then it has to be installed manually.

5.  What is new in this version?
This version of anti-virus software runs more efficiently and provides more robust tools for detecting viruses and worms. Otherwise it functions exactly the same.

6.  How will I know it worked?
If you want to verify the installation was successful, look for the new EPO icon in your system tray (by the clock).

7.  How can I receive assistance or training for Anti-virus?
McAfee Anti-Virus and the EPO are system utilities that are set to automatically run.

Training is not necessary for this particular product.

8.  Who do I contact for questions?
If you have questions or concerns about McAfee Antivirus or EPO upgrade process, please contact your IT personnel/USPNet Operator or the Help Desk at 32117 or send an email to helpdesk(at)usp.ac.fj
