USP Alumni launch for the Northern Division
The inaugural USP Alumni network for the Northern Division was launched at the Friendly North Inn.
The inaugural USP Alumni network for the Northern Division was launched at the Friendly North Inn, Labasa on the 11th of November 2011. The event was a significant milestone achievement for the USP Labasa Campus as it brought together almost 200 graduates most of who have not connected with the institution since graduating from USP. One of the major aims of the Alumni is to create a bonding and networking environment of USP graduates in the north. A handful could not attend because of the adverse weather conditions on the day.
Guest speaker for the event, the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, Professor Biman Prasad, mentioned that it was an excellent initiative on the part of the Labasa Campus to bring USP’s graduates together. Also present was the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment Dr Anjeela Jokhan and the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Affairs in the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education, Dr Mohit Prasad. The highlight of the night was the experiences and challenges shared by two school teachers; Ms Joytika Devi, a high school teacher who is also currently pursuing her Post Graduate Diploma in Language and Literature and Mr. Rapoama Corerega, a senior Education Officer and a Masters in Education graduate. The atmosphere of the night was filled with the reminiscence of days gone by for members that had not seen each other in a long time. It was also a lively and entertaining night for all those present.
Members of the Advisory Committee present included the Chair, former Prime Minister, Major General Sitiveni Rabuka, Turaga na Tui Macuata, Ratu Waisea Katonivere, who is also an alumni, Special Administrator Labasa and Savusavu Town, Mr. Vijay Chand and the Commissioner Northern, Lt Colonel Ilai Moceica. The Director Labasa Campus mentioned that this was one of the largest events ever organized by the Campus since its inception in 2000 and many thanks went towards USP management especially the DVC (Admin and RC) for her support and assistance.
