Bachelor of Commerce

Admission and programme requirements for a Bachelor of Commerce appear below:

Admission Requirements:

Persons are eligible to be admitted to study for the Bachelor of Commerce if they have:

  1. passed a Senate-recognised Form 7 examination or equivalent, or
  2. completed the requirements for a USP Foundation Program, or
  3. admission with standing.

Programme Requirements:

The Bachelor of Commerce consists of:

  1. 24 courses, of which eight are at 100-level, eight at 200-level and eight at 300-level, including 2 100-level generic courses and 2 200-level generic courses; and either
  2. a single major structure composed of a major discipline chosen from the list of available BCom majors, one or two minor disciplines and elective courses, where:
    1. the single major is between nine and 12 courses in one discipline, of which at least
      1. two courses are at 100-level; and
      2. two courses are at 200-level; and
      3. three courses are at 300-level.
    2. the minor is between four and five courses in one discipline, of which at least:
      1. two courses are at 100-level; and
      2. two courses are above 100-level
    3. the elective courses are from other than the major and minor disciplines or
  3. a double major structure composed of two major disciplines and elective courses, where:
    1. each major is between six and eight courses in one discipline, of which at least
      1. two courses are at 100-level; and
      2. two courses are at 200-level; and
      3. two courses are at 300-level
    2. the elective courses are from other than the major disciplines

Note: In some disciplines the Senate has approved variations on these single, double and minor structures.

However, some BCom disciplines have additional or exceptional admission or programme regulations which have been listed with the major descriptions below.

There are also four interdisciplinary Bachelor of Commerce program that  do not follow the above admission requirements for major and minor disciplines. Instead these four interdisciplinary programmes have a largely prescribed set of courses, across discipline boundaries. They are: Bachelor of Commerce in Business Studies, Bachelor of Commerce in Public Sector Management; Bachelor of Commerce in Professional Accounting and Bachelor of Commerce in Hotel Management, the courses for which appear below.
