2009: Library/Information Studies revisions

In 2009 many courses in both the L/IS Certificate and Diploma programs will be revised. This is necessary because our courses must cover current library practices.
Revising a course is a time consuming process, and to make space for this work, the number of courses offered must be reduced.

As a result, only the following courses were offered in 2009:

Semester one:
HUC11 and HU103 (30 week course running over two semesters)

Semester two:
HUC12, HU101 and HU103 (continues)

Flashdrives

We recommend all students purchase a flash drive that fits into a computer's USB port. This tiny gadget can store a huge amount of material - you can easily download from Class Shares onto the flash drive, to use elsewhere. Minimum size 512 MB

Dishonest Practices

Dishonest practices include plagiarism (copying another person's work and passing it off as your own), submitting someone else's assignment as your own, asking someone to do your assignment, etc.

We do not tolerate such practice. All suspected cases will be referred to the University for disciplinary action.

ELSA Test AUSAid Lecture, USP Laucala Campus

The purpose of the English Language Skills Assessment (ELSA) test is to find out if students have the English language skills needed for successful university study. The test must be taken by all students registering for 100-, 200- or 300-level courses. Please bring your USP Student I.D. or Offer letter plus photo I.D.

For further information see ELSA or ring CELT (Centre for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching)

Please note, students who wish to enter the Diploma in Library / Information Studies programme require a pass in LLF11, or a pass or higher in Form Seven English. Students who have completed LLF11 and who have ELSA score of 3 (or above) will be considered for Diploma.

ELSA and EL001 and 200-level courses

Students with less than a 3 rating in ELSA MUST pass EL001 BEFORE undertaking 200-level courses. If this is you, you need to do EL001 as soon as possible. This is University policy.

Students in the Diploma program who have completed all HU1-- courses – need to have a 3 or higher in ELSA to enter HU205. If you have less than 3 in ELSA you cannot enrol in HU205 until you have passed EL001.
