Universities throughout the world may use a variety of ways to measure the academic progress of each student. USP uses Grade Point Average (GPA). Grade Point Average is the sum of all grade points achieved since Semester 1 1992 or date of your admission divided by the number of courses attempted. Numerical grade points are awarded according to letter grades. For example
- A+ grade = 4.5
- B = 3.0
- C = 2.0
- D = 1.0
- E and EX = 0
For a more detailed discussion of GPA, see the University Calendar, "Unsatisfactory Progress"
What is a good GPA?
- A = 4.0
- B = 3.0
- C = 2.0
- D = 1.0
Where Can You See Your GPA? Your current GPA is listed on your examination transcripts. Points to remember
- Potential employers may consider the GPA of job applicants.
- Some academic programmes require a GPA of 3.00 or above.
- Some jobs require a GPA of 3.00 or above.
- Some awards require a GPA of 3.00 and above.
- Remember to formally withdraw from a course you no longer wish to continue. If you do not, the grade you receive (EX) is a fail grade and this will negatively affect your GPA.
