Barry Illaisa, Tutor

I graduated from USP in 1986 with a BA majoring in education and management. I had been a teacher then and was teaching in secondary schools in Vanuatu. Prior to that I did a Diploma in Education, and was teaching mathematics and science.

I left teaching for a position of trainer in the Vanuatu Public Service Commission, from 1991 to 2002. During that time I had undertaken postgraduate studies in Australia, at the Australian National University. I completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Development Administration in 1994 and a Masters in Development Administration in mid 1998. I also spent two years (2003-2004) working as CEO for the Luganville Municipality, in northern Vanuatu. My career has been mainly with public sector organisations.

I joined USP, and the School of Management & Public Administration in September 2006 as a tutor. My interest is in public sector management, understanding the processes that enable government agencies to effectively link with the public.
