Biography:
I graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree majoring in Literature and Language and a Post Graduate Diploma in Linguistics from the University of the South Pacific, and am currently working towards my Masters Degree. My thesis looks at a Fijian variety spoken by kailomas (descendants of a European man married to an Indigenous Fijian or Rotuman woman), a case study of the Wainunu-i-caxe communalect. The study comprises a sociolinguistics description - focusing on how speakers’ perception of their identity influences their choice of language in different domains, and attempts a sketch grammar. Research interests include phonetics and sociolinguistics.
I am part of the English for Academic Purposes teaching team, teaching both face to face and distance flexible learning modes.
