Confirmation of Grades - Learning and Teaching |
1. Double Marking of Borderline Case
The following procedures, which must be completed before the School or Departmental Assessment Meeting, must be followed in the case of students who have failed a course by not more than two marks (borderline cases).
1. The initial marker of the course shall review the borderline cases;
2. If, as a result of the review by the initial marker, the student's grades has not changed to a pass grade the Head of School or Department shall appoint another lecturer (appointed reviewer) from within the same school or department to review the cases;
3. If, as a result of the review by the appointed reviewer, the student's grades has changed the appointed reviewer shall confer with the initial marker before the Head of School or department approves the change in the marks;
4. In a case where the Head of School or Department is the initial marker, the next most senior person in the school or department shall approve the final marks.
2. Assessment Meetings
There shall be, for each school department, an Assessment Meeting which the Dean of Faculty shall chair and which all academic staff of the school or department shall attend. The Assessment Meeting, or the Dean of Faculty as Chair in between meetings, shall consider for approval:
1. final results (coursework, cut-offs points, distribution of grades, etc) and the award of appropriate grades, including the reconsideration of course grades, for all credit courses;
2. the award of Aegrotat and Compassionate Passes in accordance with clauses 5.3 and 5.4 below (relating to cases where the coursework of a student is at least a B grade); and
3. applications for special examinations in accordance with clause 5.5 below.
3. Results of Professional Diploma Courses
The functions and powers of the School or Department Assessment Meetings in 2. in respect of the Professional Diploma courses, by an Assessment Board comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Law as chair, all academic staff of the School of Law, the law lecturers from the School of Accounting and Finance and the Department of Land Management and the Heads of the Divisions of History and Politics.
4. The Chair of the Academic Standards and Quality Committee
The Chair of the Academic and Standards and Quality Committee shall;
1. consider the recommendations from the School or Department Assessment Meeting for award of a Restricted Pass, and
2. consider recommendations from the School or Department Assessment Meeting for award of Aegrotat and Compassionate Passes, and for special examinations in accordance with clauses 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5 of these Regulations (refer to University Calendar), (relating to cases where the students' course mark grades are below 'B' grade), and
3. confirm the eligibility for the conferment or award of Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees to students who have completed the requirements for their programs.
5. Notification of Students' Results
Official notification of the grades and results as approved by the School or Department Assessment Meetings or the Chair of the Academic Standards and Quality Committee shall be issued to each student by the Registrar or nominee.
