On the evening of 28th> November, the Confucius Institute at USP held the graduation ceremony for the second cohort students of Mandarin Training Courses and the New Year Gala in Suva, Fiji. About 100 students, including social students and USP staff, graduated after one semesterís hard work.

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education, Dr. Akanisi Kedrayate, the local director of the Confucius Institute at USP, Ms. Joan Yee, the Chinese director, Professor Denggui Li and the Chinese teachers attended the ceremony and conferred the certificates.

While learning the Chinese language, the students also experienced the Chinese culture and enhanced their understanding about China through various cultural activities like learning Chinese songs, Chinese dance and Chinese cuisine.

After the certificate conferment, a beautiful Chinese fan dance Tai Hu Mei (Beautiful Tai Lake) opened the New Year Celebration Gala. A lovely and happy singing and dance Zhao Pengyou (Find a friend) pushed the atmosphere to the summit. The poem reading Chun Xiao (Spring Morning) showed the rhythm and artistic implication of the Chinese ancient poems. The audience was fascinated by the charming melody of the Chinese song Zhu Ni Pingan (I wish you be safe and sound) and The Moon Is My Witness. Poem reading Only One written originally by an intermediate student and the Cross Talk Da Fei Suo Wen (Give an Irrelevant Answer) brought big applause and laughs. The performances ended - with a fashion show of Chinese, Indian and Fijian costumes. The whole night was very exciting and it was a big success.

The students all conveyed their gratitude to the teachers for their hard work and kind guidance, and expressed their desire to join the following Mandarin courses in the near future.
