中联部副部长刘结一视察南太平洋大学孔子学院

The Vice Minister of the International Department of Central Committee of CPC, Mr. Liu Jieyi Visited the Confucius Institute at USP

2013314日上午,中联部副部长刘结一率中共友好代表团访问斐济期间,亲切视察了南太平洋大学孔子学院。中国驻斐济大使馆黄勇大使、黄河参赞、苏俊杰秘书南太平洋大学校长钱德拉教授文法教育学院院长阿卡尼西博士孔子学院院长余倩莊中方院长李登贵教授、汉语教师学生代表及孔院工作人员20余人参加了此次活动。

 

刘结一副部长视察了孔子学院办公楼、教室及教学设施,了解了孔院的招生情况、学生来源及课程设置,并亲切询问了学生的学习情况。当刘副部长看到汉办赠送的多媒体教学辅助设备时,也不禁拿起点读笔模拟了一下汉语教学,称赞高科技给汉语学习带来的更多视听感受和乐趣。当刘副部长看到学生语言和文化课作业展览时,频频称赞学生的汉字写得好,语言学得快,中国画和剪纸做得巧。

 

钱德拉校长代表南太平洋大学对刘副部长的来访表示热烈的欢迎。2018年南太平洋大学将迎来她50岁的生日。今年是南太平洋大学新的六年发展规划的开局年,全校师生正努力把南太平洋大学从一所优秀大学建设成为一所一流大学。孔子学院将与南太平洋大学一同成长壮大。钱德拉校长对中国政府选择在南太平洋大学设立孔子学院表示感谢,对国家汉办/孔子学院总部和合作伙伴北京邮电大学的帮助和支持表示感谢。并进一步说明本所孔子学院不仅满足于斐济一个国家汉语学习的需要,也要为包括汤加、萨摩亚、瑙鲁等在内的南太大学其他11个成员国的汉语学习提供服务。钱德拉校长对于孔子学院一年来的工作感到满意,同时表示将继续给予全力支持,并进一步加强与中方合作伙伴 - 北京邮电大学的交流与合作,为把南太平洋大学孔子学院建设成为世界一流的孔子学院而努力。

 

阿卡尼西院长表示,其他岛国的人们对于汉语学习表现出了浓厚的兴趣,所在校区的学生和教师们也纷纷来信询问开设中文课的有关事宜,在不远的将来,我们会通过设立新的教学点、远程汉语教学与面授相结合等方式,来满足其他岛国和校区汉语学习的需求。

刘副部长对南太平洋大学为推动孔子学院的发展所作的努力给予了充分的肯定,并希望借此机会增进中国人民与斐济及南太平洋地区各国人民之间的交流、合作和友谊。最后,刘副部长为孔院留言,勉励大家:愿南太平洋大学孔子学院越办越好,为中国人民同太平洋岛国人民的友谊和文化交流多做贡献。

 

 

The Vice Minister of the International Department of Central Committee of CPC, Mr. Liu Jieyi Visited the Confucius Institute at USP

On 14th March, 2013, the Vice Minister of the International Department of Central Committee of CPC (Communist Party of China), Mr. Liu Jieyi visited the Confucius Institute at USP during his visit to Fiji with the CPC Goodwill Delegation. The Chinese Ambassador in Fiji, H.E. Mr. Huang Yong; Counselor Huang He; Secretary, Su Junjie;the Vice Chancellor and President of the University of the South Pacific, Professor Rajesh Chandra; the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education, Dr. Akanisi Kedrayate; the Director of the Confucius Institute at USP, Ms. Joan Yee; the Chinese Director, Professor Li Denggui; Chinese teachers, students representatives and Confucius Institute staff attended this occasion.

Mr. Liu Jieyi visited the office building and classrooms, and learnt about the recruitment information, students’ background, course offerings and the interest of the local students in studying the Chinese language. When he saw the multi-media teaching facilities granted by Hanban, the Vice Minister could not wait to try to teach a Chinese lesson himself. He observed that the multi-media facilities would bring about more interest and a multi-dimensional experience to students. Mr. Liu also praised the work of the students in their character writing, Chinese painting, and paper cutting.

Professor Chandra conveyed a warm welcome to the Vice Minister on behalf of the whole university. In 2018, the University of the South Pacific will celebrate its 50th anniversary. This year (2013) is the first year of the next six-year Strategic Plan for the university. The whole university is striving to move the university from a good university to an excellent university.  The Confucius Institute will develop together with the university. Professor Chandra acknowledged the trust of the Chinese Government in  establishing the Confucius Institute at USP, and also expressed appreciation for  the support and help given by Hanban, the Headquarters of the Confucius Institutes, and the partner, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. This Confucius Institute will not only serve one county but 12 member countries of USP (Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Samoa). Professor Chandra was pleased with the work of the Confucius Institute, and would like to expand the communication and cooperation with its partner, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.  He said the university would give full support to make this Confucius Institute one of the top Confucius Institutes in the world.

Dr. Kedrayate added that the people from other island countries also showed much interest in Chinese language learning, and many students and staff from other campuses also had written emails to enquire about the Chinese courses. In the near future, we will set up new teaching centres, online courses and flexible courses to meet the requirements from the other island countries and campuses.

The Vice Minister acknowledged the contribution and efforts of USP in promoting the development of the Confucius Institute, and hoped that the communication, cooperation and friendship between people of the two countries would be enhanced. At the conclusion of the event, Mr. Liu was invited to sign the Visitors’ Book.  He wrote a few words to encourage everyone involved with the Confucius Institute: “I hope the Confucius Institute at USP will be continue to develop and contribute more to the friendship and cultural communication between the Chinese people and the people of the Pacific region.”
