The FALE Research Writing Residency aims to provide Masters and PhD students with practical skills in developing thesis and dissertation writing skills. The current research statistics at USP points to a less than satisfactory completion rate among research students. Among factors identified is the lack of writing skills to enable students to turn research into quality thesis and dissertations. The target group for the workshops will be research students who are currently enrolled in a full research based thesis or dissertation program within FALE. A range of specialists, drawn from USP and complemented by professional facilitators in the writing and editing process will conduct the workshops and associated sessions. The outcome from the residency will be to provide a practical foundation for students to upgrade their writing skills to enhance their postgraduate experience in turning research into quality academic thesis writing. 

Eligibility: All Full Masters and PhD Students with current enrolments who are in the writing stages of their candidacy are eligible, but there will be a cap on numbers, and admission on the program will be based on expression of interest. Participants will be equally distributed between the three faculties and PACE-SD. Registration of participants will be endorsed by the supervisor and school research committee. Students are expected to commit to the program once they are registered.

Duration: 4 days full residency with travel, meals and accommodation (shared bungalow) included. Expression of Interest (EOI): Send in a one page EOI, detailing program, supervisor, current status of research and writing with an abbreviated abstract (250-300words) of your thesis. Also attach a photograph for ID purposes at the workshop.

Notes for Participants

1. Attendance is required for all sessions for the duration of the residency.
2. Sandpit/Breakout sessions will be in groups along with allocated facilitators, designed for free exchange of ideas on the given topic area, with notes and feedbacks made to the whole group in the reporting sessions.
3. All participants are to bring along hard copies of abstract, sample writing (24 copies) as well as soft copies of their current work on the thesis or dissertation.
4. Participants should bring their own laptops. Other services like nominal amounts of printing will be provided at the retreat.
5. Participant profiles are recorded during the residency for follow-ups.
   Please abide by normal requirements at the venue as posted by the resort on accommodation and activities. 
6. Accommodation is shared bungalows for 3-4 persons.
