9th PRIDE Regional Workshop

 

Supported by Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), Pacific Regional Initiatives for the Delivery of basic Education (PRIDE), Secretariat for the Pacific Community (SPC), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL).

Workshop participants

The workshop is targeted at education policy makers and practitioners responsible for the development/management of resources and services that support teaching and learning (e.g. school libraries and ICT). Participants have been invited from participating countries of the PRIDE Project. 

Workshop objectives:

1. Create awareness of the importance of equitable access to quality resources to support teaching and learning in the Pacific. These include school libraries/learning centres and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
2. To understand the visions, experiences, practices and challenges of developing equitable access to quality resources and information literacy globally and in Pacific countries.
3. Strengthen national and regional understanding and action around information literary and use of ICT in teaching and learning.
4. Build the capacity of government policy makers and practitioners to develop policy, curriculum guidelines/framework, appropriate programmes and initiatives to provide equitable access to quality resources and develop information literacy in order to build Pacific knowledge societies.
5. Generate awareness of the One Lap Top per Child (OLPC) Oceania and the Rural Internet Connectivity (RICs) projects currently being implemented.

The opening day of the workshop coincides with International Literacy Day (ILD), the ILD slogan for 2008 is “Literacy, the best remedy”.
