Educational Technologies



One key aspect of work in Course Design and Development is in the use of Educational Technologies to enhance the development of courses and processes at CFL. Continuous efforts are being made to test, evaluate and train staff in the use of educational technologies for USP.

Web-based Services

MOODLE Learning Management System
The University of the South Pacific uses a learning management system called moodle to deliver its course content via the internet. Moodle allows students and lecturers to communicate effectively anytime, any place. The lecturer can dynamically upload lecture materials, post discussions, send private messages, create assignments, online quizzes, reports etc, and students can view them and participate in a two way communication.

DFL Course Manager
The DFL Course Manager is designed for use by USP staff who work with Distance & Flexible Learning courses. It can help you find information about DFL courses including: DFL course components, DFL course assessments and DFL course development (only available to Course Design and Development staff).

Share360 Virtual Collaboration Groupware
Share360 is an online groupware suite that integrates various productivity and communication applications like webmail, scheduler, to do list, whereabouts, address book, bulletin board, discussions, cabinet, memos, project, and web Forms. CFDL uses Share360 to effectively communicate and coordinate workgroup activities.

Multimedia and Innovations (MI) Working Group
The CFDL Multimedia & Innovations Group was setup in 2008 for the purpose of investigating and testing multimedia applications that can greatly enhance the development process of DFL courses and associated work processes that it is aligned with. At its inception, 10 priority areas were identified, ranging from software inventory, server management, group collaboration tools, multimedia presentation software to name a few. This is an ongoing project and priority areas will change from time to time depending on the needs of CFDL and the university.

Multimedia Productions

The Multimedia Unit (MMU) provides support services in the creative production of quality and innovative educational media technologies. The unit offers a range of services including graphic design, web design, digital photography and sound recording.
