The Centre for Flexible Learning (CDL) was established in 2008 following a university-wide restructure from its previous form as the Centre for Educational Development & Technology (CEDT).
CFL now encompasses the following functions:
• Course Design and Development
CFL also engages in:
• Staff Development in Teaching and Curriculum Skills, and
• Research in Learning and Teaching.
The new CFL promotes and facilitates excellence in learning and teaching in all delivery modes amongst all University staff and students. It plans, develops, and executes an extensive range of professional learning materials for regional students of the University and promotes professional staff development in all areas related to achieving an excellent quality of learning and teaching.
Vision
The vision of CFL is to be a Centre of expertise in the development of communities of practice that promote a dynamic culture of excellence and scholarship in learning and teaching within USP and throughout the region.
Mission
The mission of CFL is to
- promote, enable and facilitate excellence in and learning and teaching in all modes locally, regionally and internationally,
- develop collaboratively with faculties, sections and agencies, high quality and innovative learning experiences for the region in formal education,
- provide opportunities for staff and students to develop exemplary and innovative learning and teaching practices and skills, and
- promote scholarship and to undertake practice-based and applied research in learning and teaching.

CFL endorses the values of the University that education is a critical means to the empowerment and development of communities in the Pacific region. CFL believes that access, equity and opportunity for learners are critical to quality educational provision for the USP region, and effective student-centered teaching and learning is a key means of achieving this. These values underpin the vision and mission of CFL. CFL is committed to working collaboratively with all partners and stakeholders. Our work is underpinned by the professional values and practice in our field – scholarship, analysis, planning, project management, research and evaluation.
