ELSA: Who should sit for ELSA?
The ELSA test must be taken by all new students admitted to degree courses including: - All new students beginning studies in all campuses, including:
- all those admitted to the BEd Primary/Secondary degree, even though they are exempted from the first year of the program, and
- those who are awarded cross credits for some or all of the 100 level courses in their program of study.
- All new students admitted to certificate and diploma programmes that involve 100 level degree courses and higher, and
- DFL and part-time students entering their programmes from 2004 onwards.
Who should not sit for ELSA?
- Full-time students who began their degree studies in 2003 and are returning to complete their 200 and/or 300 level courses
- Students who have already got a degree qualification from The University of the South Pacific and are returning to pursue further studies
- DFL students who had completed all 100 level courses and at least one 200-level course in their programmes of study prior to 2004
- Graduate and postgraduate students
- First language English students who have completed first year, and some second year courses in their programmes of study at a university whose language of instruction is English
- Students coming to USP on an exchange or study abroad scheme
- Students who passed the Academic IELTS test with minimum overall score of 6.5 and a score of 6.0 in Writing. The certificate should have been attained within 2 years from the date of your application for exemption.
