From 21st – 24th March 2011, CFDL in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organised and hosted capacity building workshops for CFDL and USP Faculty staff. The workshops were facilitated by JICA experts, Professor Katsuaki Suzuki and Assistant Professor Junko Nemoto of Kumamoto University in Japan.

The workshops were aimed at enhancing the design of DFL and online courses and also focused on evaluating and designing strategies to improve learner support at USP. Online course design models, course design specifications, training workshop design, active Learning in an online environment, attaining international recognition of learner support and instructional design, and ePortfolios were some of the key topics covered during the week-long workshop. A public lecture was also organised for the USP community which looked at online course design methodologies and international standards.

As a capacity building activity, the workshops provided many opportunities for enhancing quality in the relevant areas of our teaching materials and practices. Furthermore, and very importantly, the workshops gave staff insights into innovative methods of delivering online courses that will influence the use of Moodle at USP.
