CFDL staff Afshana Anzeg, Reena Kumar and Roshila Singh of Student Learning Support, and Kerishma Seth of Course Design and Development attended the Symbiosis International Conference on Open and Distance Learning from 21-23 February 2011 in Pune, India. The conference was hosted by the Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning and was organised to celebrate the 75th Birthday of the Founder & President, Padmashree Dr. S B Mujumdar.
The theme of the conference was “Open and Distance Learning As a Key Growth Driver for Socio – Economic Development” and primarily focused on the use of ICT in education, quality, sustainable development, student support services and governance.
The conference epitomised a global village where participants and attendees had ample opportunity to share their perspectives on the various themes. The attendance and participation of CFDL staff led to an appreciation of USP’s efforts in enhancing its distance learning programme considering its small stature in comparison to giants, such as the Indira Gandhi National Open University (India) and the Universitas Terbuka (Indonesia). The participating CFDL staff found the conference very interesting and relished the opportunities for creating networks with experts in the ODL field.
There were altogether 155 participants with about 50 international participants. The local participants hailed from various localities in India while international participants comprised those from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Pacific. Each speaker highlighted distance programmes at their respective institutions, challenges faced and some possible management of the said challenges.
