Academics participate in Moodle workshops

Participants with the workshop facilitators
at the Introduction to Moodle workshop
held on the 12th of June, 2009.
The week-long Moodle workshops by CFDL held from the 9th-12th June attracted a large number of academics from all faculties. The participants were given hands-on experience at using the Moodle tools for online learning and teaching. The workshop on the 9th of June focused on increasing students’ engagement through online learning using communication and collaboration tools in Moodle. The workshop on the 10th of June delved into ways of managing and monitoring learning achievement in Moodle.
The last two workshops on the 11th and 12th of June were primarily an introduction to Moodle and the basics of setting up an online course in Moodle. Making a big contribution to the last two workshops was Vilimaka Foliaki from the School of Education who shared his experience in using Moodle, particularly for assessment and collaboration.
While opening the workshops, Valentine Hazelman and Theresa Koroivulaono, Acting co-directors of CFDL emphasised that Moodle could be used to make the learning and teaching experience more engaging for both lecturer and student because of its dynamic capabilities as a learning management system.
CFDL will be conducting further Moodle workshops in the coming months as part of its contribution to professional development at USP foa.
