Reaching out: CFDL conducts off-site Moodle orientation for students

ED402 students attending the orientation
session at FSM
This semester CFDL partnered with the School of Education (SOE) to reach out and conduct Moodle student orientations outside the Laucala Campus. These were held at the Fiji School of Medicine (FSM) and Fiji School of Nursing (FSN) on July 29 and 30 respectively.
The sessions were organised because ED402: Curriculum Design and Evaluation in Higher Education required students to be currently involved in tertiary teaching. Given the hectic schedules of the students who were also teachers at their institutions, it was integral to take these orientations to them. Fifteen students turned up for the FSM session and around 30 students for the FSN session.
The Moodle orientation was part of the ED402 course introduction which is being coordinated by Dr. Akhilanand Sharma of SOE. Dr. Sharma also went through the course overview, requirements and assesssments with the students.
Accompanying Dr. Sharma was CFDL staff member Javed Yusuf who provided the Moodle segment. Javed covered a general overview of Moodle@USP, how to login to Moodle, the ED402 Moodle course page and an overview of the basic tools and features used in the ED402 Moodle course page. He also explained the concept of discussion forums and how to use them effectively.
CFDL anticipates more of these outreach activities in the future
