Three USP staff, Dhiraj Bhartu (CFDL), Deepak Prasad (CFDL) and Navneet Maharaj (FAL), attended the Moodle Moot NZ held at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT), Christchurch from the 13th to the 15th of April, 2010.
Moodle Moot NZ is an annual gathering of institutions sharing their experiences on the innovative uses of Moodle. This year’s Moot also included participants from China, Australia and Fiji.
The Moot started off with day long workshops on future Moodle development, Moodle in New Zealand Schools and Universities, and Moodle Administration. This was followed by two days of presentations by several educational, corporate and non-governmental institutions on how they were using Moodle in their organisations. USP staff presented on managing Moodle at USP.
The presentations ranged from technical issues such as turbo charging Moodle, Moodle and ePortfolios, improving Moodle performance and scalability to teaching issues such as managing and monitoring students, security of 3rd party modules, facilitating students to create their own content, Moodle and social-networking, and assessment and reporting in the Health Industry using Moodle and Google Docs.
The USP staff found the experience very enriching and educational.
